Types of Classes Offered

 

Area organizations offer a variety of classes applicable to our NEMCo mission.   On-line courses may also be available.

 

Stop the Bleed is a 2.5-hour course that teaches basic life-saving medical interventions, including a brief Active Shooter preparedness presentation and methods to control bleeding.

A.C.T. To Save a Life training is a one-hour first aid class that focuses on three skills you can use to save a life in the first few minutes of an emergency :

  • Antidote for suspected opiate overdoses.

  • CPR and AED training for cardiac arrest.

  • Tourniquet for severe bleeding control.

This training was developed by the South County Fire departmentNEMCo instructors have been fully trained in A.C.T. and support this community initiative.  Online classes are available.

Disaster Preparedness workshops feature instruction in personal/family preparedness.

CERT training educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.  If you are looking for CERT training closer to your community or need to make-up a missed NEMCo CERT class to get certified you can find more information by reviewing the Eastside Coalition website.

Amateur radio license courses prepare individuals for the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) License examinations.
