NEMCo provides a variety of outreach activities during the year. These include public workshops on disaster preparedness, participation in community events, and training in CERT and in ham radio license preparation.
On March 26, 2020, our seven-person NEMCo team was so pleased to assist with a drive-through collection area at Fire Station 51 to receive a combination PPE (personal protective equipment) and food drive. As you all know, our local first responders and medical professionals are running short of medical gloves, aprons, gowns, and masks and our local food banks are in dire need of donations. Our Northshore community really stepped up to care for its members. In a four-hour period we collected 106 bags of groceries, 1,500 medical gloves, and 400 N95 masks as well as a large amount of personal care items.
All the food was donated to Cedar Park Northshore Food Bank in Kenmore (Hopelink North in Shoreline is no longer accepting food donations). The personal care items were donated to Marys Place. All the PPE is being made available to Senior Care facilities in Lake Forest Park and Kenmore.
THANK YOU to everyone for stepping up: At NEMCo we had Terri Mullen, John Clark, Erik Dowell, Kevin Kutzera, MaryAnne Barnett, Matt Jones, Wendy Booth; Fire Station 51 organized the drive-through to make it happen, and our local communities took the time to contribute to the PPE/food drive!
